Plone is a content system, highly flexible and modular, with a set of features that make it one of the best options for development of content management solutions for the web.

From those characteristics stand out in particular the assisted content editing (WYSIWYG - What You See Is What You Get); a robust security mechanism; a configurable workflow and version control system, a search engine that allows the indexation of content from DOC or PDF files, multilingual support for content and interface, which is implemented in accordance with the standards for web accessibility.

Nationally and internationally, Plone has a broad portfolio of large organizations that have adopted it as a platform for web content management. These include Brazilian and Mozambican governments, which make intensive use of the platform; several U.S. government departments and institutions (CIA, NASA); universities such as Yale University, Utah State and Penn State; multinationals such as Nokia, Novell, Honda; institutions such as Amnesty International, Oxfam, Free Software Foundation or the European Environment Agency.

The Plone community relies on hundreds of programmers who contribute to the development of Plone and thousands of additional packages (add-ons), taking advantage of its high extensibility. As has happened in other years, Plone was recently recognized as one of the three most complete open source CMS by Packt Publishing.
