This month, Eurotux celebrated 23 years of history together with its team, in a fun event that involved a social snack and the opening of a commemorative cake. Given the growth of the Eurotux team, this was the first event of its kind for several new team members, who, along with the whole team, had the opportunity to hear some words from the board about this important milestone.

Congratulations, Eurotux!

Taking advantage of the modular service structure of the Security Operations Center (SOC), Eurotux implemented new functionalities in this service based on components that reinforce the robustness of the service. In February 2023, the company enriched the SOC functionalities with two new implementations:

  • Cybersecurity controls assessment: this is a consulting module designed to create a cybersecurity score that compares the situation of the company in question with the average for companies in the same business area. The created rating takes into account 18 different controls, including Data Protection, Account Management, Audit Log Management, email and browser protections, Network Monitoring and Defense. To implement this feature, Eurotux will hold a meeting with the customer to identify the type of environment and then prepare a report with a detailed scoring. This document can then be used by the customer to define which areas need investment, according to the presented risk assessment.
  • Phishing sites takedown: the number of phishing attacks targeting enterprises has increased exponentially. Knowing this reality, the SOC now has a phishing attack response module which, in case of an attack, immediately communicates all context data and details of the attack to the appropriate instances, such as the owner of the network where the attack originated, the person responsible for the servers, the entities responsible for the domains, and entities that can quickly trigger global blocks, such as Google, Microsoft, Checkpoint, among others. The goal is to ensure that the attack is stopped and does not affect Eurotux’s client or other potentially victim organizations.

With the implementation of these new features, Eurotux strengthens SOC as a 360⁰ security solution, which allows companies to protect data and equipment, reinforce security and reliability of systems and save money by preventing – among others – phishing attacks, which can prove so costly for organizations.

The Security Operations Center (SOC) service was created in 2022 to respond to the growing need to guarantee cybersecurity and risk mitigation policies for Eurotux clientes.

The Disaster Recovery as a Service offer aims to ensure business continuity in companies virtualised Solutions

Eurotux presents its new Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) outsourcing solution, which complements the company’s portfolio.

The DRaaS solution is based on VEEAM technology and was specially designed to be provided as an Outsourcing service, focused on the challenges of customers with environments characterized by system virtualization, specifically VMWare or Microsoft Hyper-V. Eurotux’s offer is completely modular and can be provided as a single service or as part of a broader outsourcing approach, such as Managed Services, Hosting, Backup as a Service or even as part of the most recent tailor-made outsourcing solution – Trust by Eurotux.

Among other advantages of using Eurotux’s Disaster Recovery as a Service Outsourcing services, we highlight the following:

  • Ensures business continuity with cloud resources even in the event of technical interventions in the infrastructure.
  • Eliminates the need for the customer to have its own physical data centre to ensure protection against a catastrophic event.
  • Transforms the investment commonly allocated to physical and human resources to manage the disaster recovery plan into a scalable operational expense.
  • Enables rapid recovery from ransomware attacks, as data is stored in a facility outside the company perimeter, not part of the local network, and with multiple restore points that can be accessed to recover the information.
  • Provides scalable flexibility that allows for rapid growth or the decommissioning of systems (in the event of business contraction).
  • High reliability ratings as the solution provides for industry standard best practices and processes.
  • Simplifies Disaster Recovery testing policy.
  • Access to a Eurotux team, with expertise in DRaaS technologies and other complementary technologies, available 24/7.

Whether through superior reliability or due to gaps in human resources needed to manage the infrastructure, DRaaS outsourcing is a solution designed especially for any organisation that wants to ensure business continuity with a monthly investment that can be adjusted according to its needs.

Jorge Paiva, Comercial Director da Eurotux
Jorge Paiva, Head of Sales at Eurotux

Jorge Paiva, Head of Sales at Eurotux, explains that “the DRaaS solution which Eurotux is now offering as an outsourcing service was designed to provide companies with virtualized environments a simple, reliable and modular way to ensure business continuity”. This solution can be adjusted to better meet the organization’s challenges and can even be provided within more comprehensive outsourcing service approaches, such as Trust by Eurotux”.

Eurotux has its business aligned with the main market trends for 2023.

Eurotux is prepared to respond to market challenges, even in a delicate global context in economic and geopolitical dimensions. Not all countries have yet recovered from the crisis caused by the pandemic and another crisis has already arisen with the Russian invasion of Ukrainian territory.

In recent years, the information technology (IT) market has grown exponentially, partly as a consequence of the confinement that has characterised recent years. This development will continue. The role of digital will gain more relevance for the competitiveness of both organisations and nations in the coming years. According to IDC, despite the adverse environment, the Portuguese investment in digital transformation will grow more than 16% in 2023. Eurotux presents what it considers to be the main IT trends for 2023:

Outsourcing: IT outsourcing, or the outsourcing of IT services, will continue to grow. Even because, in the aftermath of the pandemic, what was considered an emergency, has become business as usual. Outsourcing has proved to be an important resource in the universe of human resources, IT and, unbelievably, also in the world of organised crime. To give just one example, cybercriminals are turning to outsourcing to operationalise large-scale ransomware attacks. In organisations, workers want to continue working remotely or on a hybrid model. Three out of four employees in the European Union want to continue working from home.

Eurotux has recently launched Trust by Eurotux, a service which aims to combat small businesses’ dependency on the technician/IT manager. Trust by Eurotux offers the necessary flexibility to respond to all work models (traditional or hybrid) and to all task volumes, with a totally adaptable offer that involves allocating Eurotux resources according to the client’s needs.

Cybersecurity: Cybersecurity must continue to evolve to respond to increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. Threats are constantly renewing themselves. According to the United Nations there was a 600% increase in the number of malicious emails during the pandemic. Cybercriminals do not intend to give up and will continue to look for ways to circumvent the most robust security measures. Ransomware will continue to be one of the biggest cyberthreats to organisations, due to a very high capacity for cybercriminals to reinvent extortion tactics.

To that end, the number of available security jobs is growing at three times the rate of other technology jobs. According to Gartner, cybersecurity assurance will increasingly become a criterion for vendor selection. By 2025, 60% of organisations will consider cybersecurity risks as the primary determinant in their decision to do business with other organisations.

Digital Trust: Diversification of applications, devices and technologies is at the heart of one of the strong trends for 2013 and beyond. Trust must be earned through innovation to counter increasingly complex threats with increasingly credible narratives.

Recently in Portugal, a sophisticated attack managed to use the phone numbers commonly used by banks and other brands, with the aim of deceiving consumers. Companies should be aware of new types of attacks that, like this one, no longer use emails or other usual means to harm users. 2023 will bring new challenges in the area of Digital Trust, challenges in which technology must respond as quickly as possible to emerging threats to create a secure and trusted digital world and help businesses.
Solutions such as the Security Operations Center (SOC) are designed to help do security monitoring and to respond assertively to cyber threats, mitigating risks and eliminating any gaps that may facilitate attacks. In addition, this service’s customers have access to Eurotux professionals with constant training and updated skills to respond to the latest cyber threats.

Cloud: Cloud computing is no longer a ‘new technology’ to watch out for, having gone mainstream. Major platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud dominate the market. However, there is still room for growth in cloud computing adoption as more and more businesses migrate their solutions to the cloud environment. Within the cloud universe, the big trend to watch out for is cloud infrastructure management technology on the client.
Eurotux has a proven track record in cloud infrastructure implementation and management, with specialized teams and a proven track record in AWS, Azure or GCP.

These are some of the IT trends for 2023. Artificial Intelligence and machine learning will continue to gain more space, as well as all themes that have to do with the metaverse (augmented and virtual reality) and immersive experiences. Eurotux prepares a year 2023 with answers to the main challenges and with the necessary skills to follow these and other trends.

Eurotux’s strategy to reduce the energy footprint of organisations https://eurotux.com/2022/11/eurotuxs-strategy-to-reduce-the-energy-footprint-of-organisations/ Fri, 11 Nov 2022 10:37:11 +0000 https://eurotux.com/?p=16058 Eurotux recommends strategies that allow companies to reduce their energy footprint and, consequently, the cost of their IT infrastructure at the end of the month.

The increase in energy costs implies additional expenses with infrastructures such as data centers. Eurotux shares some guidelines to combat this scenario.

Eurotux recommends strategies that allow companies to reduce their energy footprint and, consequently, the cost of their IT infrastructure at the end of the month.

The sharp increase in energy costs has obvious implications in the expenditure that companies have with infrastructures such as data centres, for example. In the world of Information Technologies, the cost of operations has been increasing, threatening the profitability and viability of companies. Therefore, organizations seek ways to face this threat with the tools that IT and the market places at their disposal. Eurotux recommends the implementation of a strategy based on three pillars which should be explored separately or cumulatively, depending on the nature of the business.

Equipment with superior energy performance: naturally, this solution implies an initial investment, but this is quickly amortised with constant use of the hardware over the years. The main manufacturers of technological equipment have renewed their portfolio with more energy-efficient offers, which can become major allies in the fight against rising energy costs. The need to change equipment can also create an impulse to change the architecture of existing infrastructures by introducing more compact, intelligent and simple to manage solutions, which also help save energy. Companies such as Eurotux contemplate a solution rental model, eliminating the initial acquisition cost.

2) Services outsourcing: by using external resources for their operations, companies can ensure a reduction in costs, especially energy costs. Take the example of outsourcing data and information management. By contracting a cloud service provider for this task, companies eliminate the energy cost inherent to having this information in their data centre, on their premises, where in addition to electrical consumption they must assume the recurring cost of cooling systems.
3) Remote services: for a significant number of companies the reality has changed with COVID-19 and good practices for service delivery have remained that were not previously a priority and in some cases were even rejected. By using remote services – for example for technical assistance or specific services such as database management – enterprises have access to services with a more competitive value – as the service provider does not spend fuel or other energy to ensure the same.

Jorge Paiva, Head of Sales do Grupo Eurotux
Jorge Paiva, Head of Sales at Eurotux

Jorge Paiva, Head of Sales at Eurotux, explains that “at a time of demanding challenges, the way we respond to rising energy costs in companies can make all the difference in the competitiveness of companies and the way they position themselves in the market”. Jorge Paiva also ensures that “organizations such as Eurotux can be a key partner in the common front against rising energy costs, ensuring a scalable, adaptable and dynamic offer, capable of adjusting to the needs of all types of clients”.

The company redesigned its outsourcing offer to provide a service tailored to the needs of each client

Eurotux, a company specialized in implementing information and communication technology solutions tailored to its clients’ needs, now offers its latest service – Trust by Eurotux.

Designed for companies that traditionally rely on a very small team – often a single professional – Trust by Eurotux aims to answer companies’ main challenges regarding this dependency:

  • Difficulty in retaining staff: with a market marked by voracious competition, companies struggle to be able to attract and retain talent in IT-related areas.
  • One-man show: many companies centralize in a single professional all the management of IT policies and infrastructure. When this professional leaves the company, the company faces a period of disruption that has obvious impacts on the business.
  • Static training: in this scenario, companies count on a professional who makes his know-how available, but who is not subject to constant training and specialization – an essential argument in a world where cybersecurity is mainly based on knowledge.

With Trust by Eurotux, Eurotux clients have an IT professional dedicated to the specifics of their infrastructure and business needs. Trust by Eurotux guarantees immediate access to a Eurotux ICT professional dedicated to the company and their replacement in case of unavailability, due to holidays or other reasons.

The allocation of the professional to the client benefits from great flexibility, to ensure that the demands of the business and its variations in terms of the nature of tasks or workflow are met. Thus, the resource may be allocated five days a week at the client’s premises, but the client may choose to receive the resource in a mixed face-to-face/remote model and limited to a few days a week, if this model is the most appropriate.

The IT professional who will provide the services will also act as a point of contact with Eurotux, in order to benefit from the know-how and skills of the entire Eurotux team, if necessary. Furthermore, there is a contractual obligation of total confidentiality regarding the client’s business and data.

Eurotux professionals are duly prepared to guarantee a wide range of ICT services, such as Helpdesk tasks, hardware installation and configuration, operating system installation, IT park and licensing plan management, and implementation of cybersecurity policies at various levels.

Jorge Paiva, Head of Sales do Grupo Eurotux

Jorge Paiva, Head of Sales of Eurotux Group, explains that “the creation of the Trust by Eurotux solution was the company’s response to a gap we identified in the national market, characterized by a scenario in which many companies place all responsibilities of implementation, management and maintenance of IT infrastructures in the hands of one or two people – with the inherent challenges for the business when that person is unavailable or leaves the company“.

Jorge Paiva emphasizes that “Trust by Eurotux was designed with the necessary flexibility to perfectly adapt to each client’s needs and allows them to have in Eurotux a partner that always assures the necessary human resources to reach their goals“.

Eurotux, through its subsidiaries ITMZ and Dipcode, are the consortium responsible for the construction of the web portal of the Mphanda Nkuwa hydroelectric project and the associated energy transport infrastructure for its proper operation.

The project will be located downstream of the existing Cahora Bassa Dam and is of paramount importance to Mozambique as a reliable source of clean, low-cost electricity. Mphanda Nkuwa is the largest hydroelectric project under development in Mozambique. Its low power generation costs combined with relatively limited environmental and social implications make the 1,500 MW project a high priority for the Government of this country.

Dipcodes’s responsibilities include the development, implementation and maintenance of the portal – a privileged vehicle for stakeholder information, with special relevance in terms of informing the population and investors. ITMZ is responsible for the local management of the project and the hosting technical services required for the proper functioning of this essential element for the project’s digital footprint strategy in Mozambique. Dipcode will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the portal, designed in WordPress, a technology with which the company has already developed other sites such as unibanco.pt and visao.pt.

The portal is currently under development and is expected to be operational by early January 2023.

The challenge

Pétis, from Ageas Portugal Group, launched the first ecosystem for dogs and cats in Portugal, with food, protection, services and more. As main challenges for the implementation of this platform Pétis identified the need to accommodate the potential sustained growth and according to the needs, ensure compliance with the highest security requirements. In addition, arguments such as competitiveness in terms of installation costs and maintenance of services were essential given the nature of the company and the fact that it is a newly established company.

The solution

An infrastructure was created in two distinct datacentres in order to provide a fully redundant production environment, as well as a Disaster Recovery environment that can be used to replace the production environment in case of need. Approval and integrated testing environments were also made available.
Besides the infrastructure supply, Eurotux guarantees the platforms’ availability with permanent attention (24×7). Furthermore, taking into consideration the worsening of cybercrime and the numerous attacks against companies and organizations, Eurotux dedicated special care to the implemented solution in order to guarantee the highest levels of infrastructure cybersecurity. Infrastructure status monitoring, maintenance and scalability analysis are some of the services Eurotux provides to Ageas Group’s new brand.

The aftermath

For a start-up, it is important to have a partner that advises and accompanies the company with a view to its growth, ensuring cost control and without jeopardising the security and good performance of its services.
The implemented solution adds scalability to the infrastructure and provides it with cybersecurity arguments which are essential to protect Pétis’ business.
Eurotux also assumed the role of added value with Pétis and its partners.

The company is preparing to increase its team in Portugal by 16

Eurotux, a company specialized in implementing information and communication technology solutions tailored to its clients’ needs, is preparing to make the largest hiring in its 22 year history in Portugal.

The Group, which operates in Portugal through the companies Eurotux and Dipcode, will increase its team in Portugal by 16% in September, with the hiring of 11 new people to integrate the national team.

The new hires are mostly young masters students – some of whom have already had internship experience with Eurotux Group. The technical skills of the new team members will allow them to reinforce the positions of Systems Administration, Project Management, Data Science and Software Engineering.

The new team members will start at the end of September and will reinforce the teams working in Braga, although by the very nature of Eurotux’s business, they will also be able to respond to the group’s needs throughout the entire national territory and also for the group’s companies in other territories, as is already the case with clients in the United Kingdom.

Marlene Silva, Human Resources Manager of the Eurotux Group, explains that “the arrival of these new professionals represents the group’s largest single hiring in Portugal since its creation in 2000”. The Group’s Human Resources manager states that “the close relationship between the group and higher education institutions which have computer engineering courses – such as the University of Minho – allows Eurotux to identify talent on time and look for the right professionals at the right time to meet market challenges and our clients’ needs”.
