Fourth generation of Arkeia appliances double in storage capacity
The fourth generation of Arkeia appliances is the first to be launched after its acquisition by WD, subsidiary of Western Digital, earlier this year, presenting four new models for wiring closet installation, with greater storage capacity, quicker processors, improved memory and integrated SSD units that reduce backup creation time and accelerate data recovery speed.
This new line, comprised of the RA4300, RA4300T, RA5300 and RA6300 models, distinguishes itself from the previous generation in five major points: quickness, storage capacity, usability, reliability of storage, and easier off-site storage.
In addition to improvements in hardware, these systems are launched with WD Arkeia v10.1 software, featuring its support for “seed and feed” technology, used in hybrid backups, allowing companies to change the location of backups without recurring to the traditional tapes.
New generation, new improvements
With regards to quickness, these models come with integrated LTO5 magnetic tape, and support for up to 2 six-core Intel ® Xeon® processors, also featuring in some models, integrated SSD units and up to 96 GB in memory, that – in tandem with WD Arkeia’s – Progressive Deduplication™ technology – guarantee greater speeds for data backup and recovery.
Storage capacity has been doubled in comparison to the previous generation of appliances (reaching up to 48 TB), also improving its usability. The new Arkeia software version includes a wizard that simplifies the appliance’s configuration process. Since the new models include enterprise-class WD RE™ hard drives for maximum data integrity, the storage reliability is also guaranteed.
Another great novelty is the featuring of a software that supports cloud hybrid backups with “seed and feed” capability, allowing administrators to complement off-site backups using USB hard drives to transfer initial backups, and also, scaling WAN bandwidth for nighttime incremental backup replication. The result? Simplified off-site storage without using tapes.
Increasingly flexible licensing
The licensing process for Arkeia appliances is simpler and more economical, since it is now organized into bundles that may be purchased separately according to each client’s needs.
Additionally, Arkeia’s supply is especially competitive until September 15, given that a special offer will include, the Microsoft bundle, incorporating Exchange, SharePoint, SQL Server and AD backup agents, at no extra cost
