Eurotux’ Open source helps revolutionize X-ray appointments at the Fernando Pessoa University’s Dental Clinics
This new system allows apical and orthopantomographic x-rays, both essential in dentistry, to be viewed in quicker fashion than the traditional method, using phosphor-plate readers and tablets equipped with the necessary imaging software.
Simultaneously used in a pedagogic and professional context, this open platform for application virtualization will improve conditions for UFP students, as well as patients that use the dental clinics. This is so because it presents a higher quality image resolution than regular x-ray film; adds the possibility of using software for graphic editing; provides faster image availability; and allows for greater comfort in viewing x-rays, on tablets, together with the patient.
Along with these advantages, since it is based on open source technology, this solution implemented by Eurotux, comes with no licensing costs.
This technology also allows for greater mobility within and between different clinics, accommodating for easier communication between health practitioners and faster reception of x-rays by the medical staff. The usability of the patient management and imaging software has also been enhanced.
Considering that this application virtualization solution was tailored by Eurotux to the client’s specific needs, it was possible to use the UFP’s existing infrastructure, resulting in the deployment of innovative technology with low equipment and development costs.
As well as the improvements for patients and doctors, this solution also delivers environmental advantages. Replacing conventional x-rays with digital images eliminates the use of film and development fluids that contain residual components (such as silver and traces of lead) that are highly contaminating of the environment.
At the Dentistry Teaching Clinics of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the UFP, patients are given clinical appointments in some areas of dental medicine that are included in the curriculum of the integrated masters level program, and although its main goals are teaching, learning and professional training, the UFP ultimately establishes an important link with the community while providing these services.
