CentOS available for IBM Power platforms
CentOS is an operating system (OS) produced by an open source community, with the constant focus on security and stability. It derives from Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), a commercial solution of Red Hat. Despite being identical to RHEL, it differs by not having commercial support, although it has all of its updates and developments. This OS was built to operate in different environments and to adapt to different implementations.
With the release of CentOS for IBM POWER8, organizations that use this platform can combine the stability and robustness that characterize this SO, to the high levels of performance, reliability, and scalability that the IBM Power systems are renowned for.
The POWER8 technology was launched and 2014. In addition to a superior performance than its predecessor, the POWER7, it is considerably more energy efficient.
An example of the high performance of the POWER8 systems in executing open source technology is the benchmark conducted by the MariaDB team that executed over a million queries per second.
The release of CentOS for the POWER8 is a significant leap forward for the platform’s users, since Linux has a significant presence in the business world. The CentOS supports the Big Endian and Little Endian versions, and it can be downloaded at CentOS.org.
