Inclusive digital solution by Eurotux and others wins the IBM Hackatown
Eurotux took part in the team that won the IBM Hackatown, dedicated to city health, in a programming competition that took place for 24 hours, thanks to an innovative and inclusive solution that seeks to fight old-age loneliness. The event was held in Lisbon, Portugal, starting on Friday, September 22, and carrying on to the next day.
Hackatowns are events that are focused on the theme of smart cities, with “learning while doing” as its motto, providing an opportunity for its participants to develop innovative applications, based on specific challenges. In this case, IBM Hackatown focused on creating digital solutions within the scope of city health. The device created by CognusTeam’s team, consisting of one member of Eurotux’s Research and Development team and by members of Softinsa, an IBM Group company, was distinguished as the best, along with the SmartThings team’s project.
The event gathered eight teams made up of IBM specialists and by members of the technological giant’s business partners, as in Eurotux’s case, currently holding the status of IBM Gold Business Partner, a level that distinguishes its technical skills and customer satisfaction. The goal was to foster cooperation and skill development in Bluemix, Internet of Things, and cognitive solutions, with the purpose of presenting specific alternatives for real world application.
The team Eurotux took part in, developed a solution targeted towards accompanying the elderly and for preventing the consequences of loneliness. The device is capable of voice recognition and providing adequate answers, for example, providing the dates of appointments, indicating items on a shopping list, or requesting you to call someone. One of the components developed for the solution was sensorization. Via sensor data, dashboards aimed at health professionals and care givers, were built into the solution. This data enables you to analyze, among other aspects, whether or not the person has suffered a fall, automatically asking if everything is ok.
Eurotux’s participation in this IBM marathon, illustrates the company’s commitment to continuously enrich the technical skills of its employees, enabling them to explore their capacities. A learning experience that strengthens individual skills, with guaranteed benefits for the entire company and its customers.
