Secure Data. Unbreakable Storage: The new generation of IBM FlashSystem strengthens organizations’ digital resilience
The growing sophistication of cyberattacks, combined with the exponential increase in data volume and the accelerated adoption of artificial intelligence, is forcing organizations to rethink how they protect their critical information. In a landscape where ransomware, automated attacks, and new cryptographic threats are becoming increasingly common, data resilience has become a strategic priority for CIOs, infrastructure managers, and cybersecurity teams.
It was in this context that IBM recently unveiled the new generation of its FlashSystem enterprise storage portfolio, reinforcing its commitment to solutions designed to help organizations protect critical data, accelerate recovery after incidents, and ensure operational continuity. Among the new features are the IBM FlashSystem 5600, 7600, and 9600 models, designed to meet the demands of modern infrastructures and the most demanding workloads.
The new generation of IBM storage systems integrates advanced data management and protection capabilities, supported by the IBM Storage Virtualize platform. This architecture enables organizations to manage storage environments more efficiently, simplifying operations and ensuring high data availability in hybrid infrastructures.
One of the main focuses of the new FlashSystem generation is the enhancement of cyber resilience. These new models incorporate features that help organizations identify anomalous behavior, respond to incidents, and recover data more quickly in the event of an attack. These capabilities are particularly relevant in a context where ransomware attacks continue to evolve and cause significant impacts on business operations.
Designed for Demanding Workflows
In addition to threat protection, these new systems were also designed to support modern workloads, including advanced data analytics applications and artificial intelligence projects. As organizations increasingly rely on data to support strategic decisions, it becomes essential to ensure that the storage infrastructure keeps pace with this evolution in terms of performance, scalability, and security.
IBM thus positions the FlashSystem family as a central element of a resilient storage strategy, capable of addressing the challenges of the so-called era of AI and cybersecurity. More than just a storage system, it is a platform that enables organizations to keep their data available, protected, and recoverable even in the face of incidents.
The Power of Hardware
IBM’s new generation of FlashSystem systems introduces significant hardware advancements, notably the new 5th-generation FlashCore Modules, which offer higher density, enhanced security with quantum-safe encryption, and superior performance thanks to their on-disk computing architecture.
The higher density of the modules reduces the physical space required while significantly increasing available capacity, with modules ranging from 6.6 TB to 105.6 TB. Depending on the model, density triples compared to FCM4 drives, allowing more data to be stored in the same footprint—ideal for data centers where per-rack and energy costs are critical.
This 5th generation of FCM also introduces new in-module computing capabilities to enable deduplication within the FCM itself, freeing up the controllers and ensuring predictable performance, even with parallel workloads, I/O spikes, or multi-tenant environments. Performance and services scale linearly with the number of installed modules, avoiding controller bottlenecks.
Finally, the new FlashSystem 5600, 7600, and 9600 models feature state-of-the-art processors, higher bandwidth, up to 30% more IOPS, and improved energy efficiency, enabling organizations to scale storage more efficiently, resiliently, and in a way that adapts to the growing demands of modern workloads.
