Eurotux renewed Maia City Council’s infrastructure with open-source solutions
Maia City Council (CM Maia) faced significant challenges with the rapid expansion of information technology (IT) use, coupled with an IT team that, at the time, was only half its current size. Made up of 11 people split across three main groups – ERP and CRM application support, helpdesk and technical support, and systems, networking and security – the team needed a solution that could scale efficiently and manage its growing needs. As a result, the context for the infrastructure renewal was considerably complex.
The choice of Eurotux as a partner came about organically, stemming from the collaboration on the Maiadigital Project in the 2000s. After the project ended, the infrastructure managed by Eurotux was taken over by the Maia municipal authority, establishing a natural foundation for future partnerships.
Solutions Implemented
After a period of identifying needs and challenges with Maia City Council, and based on this organisation’s guidance, Eurotux then implemented a set of infrastructure solutions aligned with CM Maia’s preference for open-source solutions. Over time, naturally, the council’s growth and the discontinuation of some of these solutions led to their replacement with others that kept pace with its needs. Eurotux was always a present partner in choosing and integrating these solutions with existing systems, and in the support provided. The set of upgrades carried out gave the council’s services increased data storage and protection, strengthened cybersecurity, system monitoring, virtualisation, groupware and a Service Desk.
With the implementation of these solutions, the council noted a significant improvement in several areas, particularly system reliability, remote working capability, server virtualisation and resource optimisation. These benefits enabled an increase in the efficiency and productivity of the IT team.
Rui Cruz, CISO and Project Coordinator at Maia City Council, describes the working relationship with Eurotux as a genuine strategic partnership, providing peace of mind through constant availability and proactive problem-solving. It is worth noting that Eurotux offers IT infrastructure management with 24-hour monitoring, along with support and proactive maintenance guided by ISO 27001 controls.
The collaboration, spanning more than 20 years, is seen as a testament to Eurotux’s ability to deliver excellent services at a competitive price, despite public procurement laws. This long-standing relationship is characterised by trust and genuine partnership.
Autonomy is vital
A crucial aspect of this partnership between Eurotux and CM Maia is the transfer of knowledge after each implementation, ensuring that the council’s technical team retains internal autonomy in reconfiguring, administering and operating the systems, beyond the contracted support.
“I think it’s important to highlight the clear transfer of knowledge at the end of each implementation, which guarantees, despite the contracted and planned support, internal autonomy in reconfiguring, administering and operating the systems”
Rui Cruz, CISO and Project Coordinator at Maia City Council
“The relationship with the Maia City Council team is one of genuine partnership, built on mutual trust, a spirit of sharing and a focus on quality”
Ricardo Oliveira, Chief Solutions Officer (CSO) na Eurotux
The partnership thus demonstrates how strategic collaboration, aligned with the principles of both organisations, can result in sustainable growth and a robust, reliable IT service.
